About Lenovo

Lenovo, founded in China in 1984 by Liu Chuanzhi from the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the Asia's largest PC manufacturer. A circuit board that generated Chinese characters on Western-made PC’s was the first product launched by them in the late 1980s. The "Lenovo" word was coined from the words "Le-" (from Legend) and "novo", pseudo-Latin for "new". And in the late 1990s, its Pentium-based Conet PC came bundled with a modem and access to internet.

Lenovo wanted to expand into Western markets to become the third largest PC manufacturer in the world. Lenovo was literally unknown outside China, but made the headlines with the announcement of its intent to acquire the PC division of IBM in December 2004. Prior to this, it had already acquired twenty-five percent of the Asian market, largely due to its ability to sell computers at affordable prices and China's high tariffs on imports. Lenovo paid a whopping $1.25 billion to IBM thus in 2004 Lenovo acquired the personal computer division of IBM, making it one of the largest foreign acquisitions in Chinese history. It became the owner of the legendary ThinkPad brand for laptop PCs and thus moved its executive headquarters to New York State.

Lenovo launched its first self-branded product line in 2006, since the IBM PC acquisition. While having the business models built on innovation, operational efficiency and investment in the emerging markets, Lenovo Group Ltd is a largest computing company. It has its major research centers located in Yamato, Japan; Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, China; and Raleigh, North Carolina, the United States. Thus the company develops, manufactures and markets the reliable, secure and easy-to-use technological products and services worldwide.

Now Lenovo Group Limited is the largest personal computer manufacturer in the People's Republic of China, and as of 2004 is the third largest in the world. The original company was incorporated in 1984 in Beijing, but the listed holding company was incorporated in 1988 in Hong Kong, now a Special Administrative Region of China. Its headquarters are in Purchase, New York(USA). However, the company plans to move its headquarters to Raleigh, North Carolina which is the home of IBM's former ThinkPad group.

As a result of a Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on May 1, 2005, Lenovo's product line includes the ThinkVision, ThinkPad, ThinkVantage, ThinkCentre, Aptiva and NetVista. The wide range of product lines of Lenovo includes servers, handheld computers, imaging equipment, and mobile phone handsets along with the desktop and laptop computers. It also provides information technology integration and support services and its QDI unit offers contract manufacturing.

Lenovo T61. Bought this to replace a Dell D610 i had used for years. The Lenovo is not as good. Big battery in back, screen now has dark spots, and the V key stopped working. My next will be a Dell or ASUS!!

I really had a bitter experience with Lenovo. As i bought a Lenovo laptop 3000 g series but it stopped working with 6 months. After i went to the service center they told me that it has a mother board problem and had to be replaced. when i asked how much time it will take they could not say anything. now its been almost a month i had dropped it to the service center and yet to receive any feed back from them. its really frustrating. i really can;t believe a brand like lenovo can have such a bad service and would like to suggest all not to go for a lenovo laptop.

I bought my Lenovo Y310 a little more than a year ago and about a few days before my warranty expires, my battery died. I need to plug the adapter for it to turn on. I went to the lenovo service center here in the Philippines and they replaced it after 5 working days. Really annoying. I would assume that they'd at least work more than a year.

I've purchased a lenovo 400G one year before. BUT it's suddenly been off during the work. And never came in condition to be on again. it has checked by the agent of Lenovo here in Nepal, BUT they say extreme cost to replace mother board. I dont what was happened inside it and no idea to the cost of mother board. So, the lenovo peoducts have very weak purformance and not durable until a year. Its curse to the user indeed.
